“Paraiso” – A Historical Epic of Love
“Paraiso” is a sweeping historical drama set in 16th- and 17th-century Japan. Based on historical events, it delves deeply into universal themes of love, faith, and resilience. Against the backdrop of one of the most transformative periods in Japanese history, the story vividly portrays the intense clashes between East and West, culture and faith, highlighting the duality of human nature—its cruelty and purity—inner liberation, and the timeless essence of love.

Set during the Age of Exploration, the film unfolds amidst international religious conflicts and the harsh anti-Christian edicts of the Edo period. It powerfully depicts the journey of a woman who, caught in the turmoil of her time, defies persecution and societal constraints to steadfastly pursue her forbidden love for a Nanban (Southern Barbarian) painter, offering a vivid narrative of personal growth and unwavering determination.
